Concrete!

Today we witnessed the pouring of fresh concrete around the perimeter (curb) of the track.  It's nice to see the demo stage done and permanent foundations for the future being laid.  There also was quite a bit of piping activity in the last week (below).  My guess would be they are the cooling sprinklers, drainage pipes and electrical conduits.  By all accounts, this track was well engineered.

Time to Ditch the Track

There hasn't been a lot of activity that's been overtly visible to the camera during the last week.  Crews were seen working on posts near the front of the bleachers and many survey sticks were placed in the ground.  The corner of the field at Marshall & Colorado streets has been lowered several feet to prepare for the new entrance way that will greet visitors to the stadium.
Lastly, a large ditch was trenched (see below) on the west side of the stadium, presumably the new home of all the black pipe seen lying about.

Pipe Dreams

It  appears that preparation work has now started for the first phase of laying drain pipes and possibly the irrigation pipes that will act as a turf coolant on hot summer days.  It will be interesting to see how quickly work goes now that the weather is clearing for the foreseeable future.
