The Turf is Here!!

The folks at the Facelift have been very busy this summer, and updates of the track's progress have been a bit more sporadic than anticipated.  However, over the past several weeks the facility has passed its compaction test and the turf has started to roll into place.  We're getting very excited around here and hope that the crew can maintain its pace in the now searing sun.

Concrete!

Today we witnessed the pouring of fresh concrete around the perimeter (curb) of the track.  It's nice to see the demo stage done and permanent foundations for the future being laid.  There also was quite a bit of piping activity in the last week (below).  My guess would be they are the cooling sprinklers, drainage pipes and electrical conduits.  By all accounts, this track was well engineered.

Time to Ditch the Track

There hasn't been a lot of activity that's been overtly visible to the camera during the last week.  Crews were seen working on posts near the front of the bleachers and many survey sticks were placed in the ground.  The corner of the field at Marshall & Colorado streets has been lowered several feet to prepare for the new entrance way that will greet visitors to the stadium.
Lastly, a large ditch was trenched (see below) on the west side of the stadium, presumably the new home of all the black pipe seen lying about.

Pipe Dreams

It  appears that preparation work has now started for the first phase of laying drain pipes and possibly the irrigation pipes that will act as a turf coolant on hot summer days.  It will be interesting to see how quickly work goes now that the weather is clearing for the foreseeable future.

The Past Week: Debely Stadium Progress

At this point, the construction crews keep leveling the playing field.  MANY truckloads of dirt have been hauled away from the site and surveying stakes have been impaled into the ground.  To get everyone up to date, here's the first sequence of panoramic shots taken from the Girl's Gym Emergency Exit Stairs.

Welcome to Joe Debely's Facelift!

Greetings, and thanks for coming to Joe Debely's Facelift.  This blog is intended to serve as an interim photographic information hub about the track and field renovations at Joe Debely Stadium.  This site is in no way affiliated with TUSD, rather it is maintained by a fan of construction projects who also happens to be an avid track fanatic.

Debely Stadium is a Turlock Unified School District Stadium situated on the campus of Turlock High School. Most updates of the construction progress will be in the form of daily photographs, and interesting tidbits should we stumble across them. Eventually, we at the Facelift hope the official TUSD Debely site (which is still not operational) will include a wireless webcam that allows for the eventual creation of wonderful time-lapse movies.  It would be great for the district to keep their promise of creating the site, and doing so soon.  Many community members are actively seeking updates.

So What's Going In??
